“Light and, more specifically, its interaction with clouds, water & architecture is what inspires me. Starting with an almost black canvas I slowly tease out the subject as if illuminating the scene. The ethereal qualities of charcoal & oil capture this perfectly, a romantic haze of light & dark.
Artists such as Gerhard Richter, Casper David Friedrich and Edward Hopper first introduced me to the romance of tone and the importance of drawing, qualities which I believe are of greater importance today than ever before.”
