Stuart Walters

Born in Lancashire in 1951, Stuart spent a good deal of his time in his mother's home town on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

For the past 40 years he has been involved in art as a gallery owner, artists agent and painter.

On his retirement in 2005 he moved to Spain where he lived for several years.  Stuart returned to the UK in 2013 and now lives and works from his home in Cheshire.

He says: "The start point for my work most often begins with colour.  Mixing the oil paint on the palette usually provides the initial motivation for the paintings,  Once applied there follows a  process of scraping back and applying layers to create texture and form eventually leading to the finished piece.

My main influences are most definitely drawn from Scottish artists both past and present.  The list is long and includes Peploe, Earley, Fergusson and more recently Rae, Murphy, Woodside and McQueen."
